Provided Information to Requester - Close SR. Emailed the following: Thanks for your inquiry about sidewalks along BLACKSON AVE. Unfortunately, there are over 700 miles of absent sidewalks and curb ramps in Austin and current funding is only sufficient to construct around 30 miles of sidewalks and curb ramps per year. Sidewalk and curb ramp projects are selected based on the Council adopted Sidewalks, Crossings, and Shared Streets Plan (see link below). A prioritization matrix was developed as part of the Sidewalk Plan to assist in making decisions for sidewalk and curb ramp installation based on a variety of factors which include:   How far is it to schools, major employers, transit stops, government offices, public accommodations, and public housing? How many people live in the area? Are there already existing sidewalks in the area? Is the request made by the ADA task force? How busy is the street? Have there been reported pedestrian safety concerns   These criteria are explained in the prioritization matrix in Appendix F of the 2023 Sidewalks, Crossings, and Shared Streets Plan (see link above). Using this decision matrix, the program's limited budget is used to achieve maximum benefits.  A map of currently funded projects is available as part of the Mobility Annual Plan: https://data.austintexas.gov/stories/s/Mobility-Annual-Plan/2xkd-czyh/.   The Safe Routes To School Program also funds new sidewalks to assist students in safely walking and biking to school. Provided Information to Requester - Close SR. Emailed the following: Thank you for your inquiry regarding the sidewalks along Travis Country Circle. We understand your concern that the placement of mailboxes may be narrowing the sidewalk and recognize the value of having wider pedestrian space, consistent with the updated Transportation Criteria Manual. Our team has evaluated the sidewalks along Travis Country Circle and confirmed that the existing width, as constructed, meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). At this time, these sidewalks are not included in any funded improvement projects. However, the area will remain identified as a planned, unfunded project until additional resources become available to support future improvements. We also encourage you to share your concern with the United States Postal Service, as they may be able to provide additional insight or assistance regarding mailbox placement.

Emailed the following: Thank you for contacting the City of Ausitn with your concerns and for your very thoughtful question.   Regrettably, this neighborhood was constructed prior to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). When a new mailbox is placed, it should be placed consistent with City Standard 432S-10 (https://library.municode.com/tx/austin/codes/standards_manual?nodeId=CITY_AUSTIN_TEXASST_SERIES_400COST), which has the mailbox in the grass strip. As you mentioned, there is no grass strip at your address, so the sidewalk would need to be adjusted to allow for a 4 ft minimum clear space behind the sidewalk.  The mailbox can also be placed sideways as long as 4 ft clear is available.
