  • caller noticed algae in the creek that runs behind his home he wants to have creek tested for the wildlife that's inside/ or uses creek. Brent Bellinger spoke at length with the caller about the algae being observed, how common it is for the late winter/early spring. Brent also offered to come out to speak with the neighborhood residents about the creek's condition and measures that could be taken to protect the water quality and ways to safely interact with the waterway.

They appeared to be consistent with bacterial issues. The owner was advised to monitor the dog and if the issues did not resolve to follow-up with a vet.

  • Recently homeless group moved into woods at Nuchols Crossing & Teri Rd. Now Lark Creek is covered with algae--looks like a sewer now. behind my house, with fecal matter floating in it. You can access the creek from my property at 5612 Lark Creek Dr. I have a fence, but can let inspectors in. Phone 218-576-5613. I think it might be toxic blue green algae; I am worried about pollution of the stream for wildlife& also for my dogs, who occasionally get out when a delivery or service man leaves the gate open.   • Brent Bellinger and representative from Austin Public Health spoke with individual about subsequent illness of wife after gulping water while swimming in Barton creek and Barton Springs pool. Wife received medical treatment and was discharged. We discussed possible short- and long- term effects if it was a cyanotoxin exposure; however, it is unclear the true cause of the symptoms as it rained before site observation could occur.
