Description
WE HAVE A SPEEDING ISSUE ON SPICEWOOD PARKWAY FROM CUT-THROUGH TRAFFIC. WE HAVE REPORTED THIS TO THE CITY SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS. THE CITY HAS DONE NOTHING TO PROTECT THE RESIDENTS FROM THIS SPEEDING TRAFFIC CUTTING THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORHOOD TO GET TO ANDERSON MILL. There are hills on each sides of our section of Spicewood Parkway ( both on the Top Ridge and the Ashton Ridge side). This cause the approaching traffic in each direction to accelerate up the hill and maintain their speed through our section We get speeding cars on both sides, but the most dangerous side is the west side {southbound side}. There is a blind curve involved. Cars begin accelerating up the hill before Top Ridge and through the Top Ridge/Spicewood Pkwy intersection [ since there are no 3 way stop signs to slow their speed] and are hitting top speed as they round that corner into our section, before descending down the hill toward Ashton Ridge. Cars also speed up the hill northbound off Topridge as well coming off Old Spicewood Springs Rd from Hwy 360. The speed limit is 30 MPH in this section, ( we believe it should be lowered to 25 MPH). THIS IS A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. We have no sidewalks or street lights so we are forced into the street if we want to walk or ride bikes. Many cars rounding the corner are exceeding that limit by 10-15 MPH. Most all the homes in this section of Spicewood Pkwy have young elementary age children that if they were to entered the street there would be no time for a vehicles coming around that blind corner to avoid hitting the child. Due to their high speed the cars many times even cut into the bike lane rounding the curve. This must be dealt with before someone is killed or injured! The city has placed speed bumps just north of our section on Spicewood Parkway for 3/4 of a mile. You have obviously have seen the speeding problem. There are speed bumps on the street coming into our section as well off Top Ridge. But our section of Spicewood Pkwy has been left wide open, unprotected. Last year the city conducted a speed monitor study and found that between 300 to 700 CARS PER DAY cut through our neighborhood and 30%+ of that traffic is traveling in excess the the 30 MPH speed limit. I have a copy of the study's findings and can provide you the evidence of the problem. Mario Porras even conducted a site visit and observed the speeding traffic in person. We were told the city was placing our section on the "high priority " list to address. We have heard nothing from your department. Last year one of our elderly resident was T-boned by a speeding car as she tried to turn into her driveway. We have many people from the neighborhood walking and riding bikes in this area and I have personally seen "near misses " from reckless speeders. WHEN WILL YOU PLACE SPEED BUMPS IN OUR SECTION? YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALL SPEED BUMPS IN THE STREET SECTIONS NORTH AND SOUTH OF US. WHEN WILL YOU INCLUDE OUR SECTION?? Please tell us what we must do to get your attention on this matter.
