Field Inspection Conducted - Close SR. Good afternoon Carol, My name is Stephen Barkley and I am with Austin Transportation and Public Works. I left a voicemail for you, but I wanted to send a follow up email in case you did not receive my voicemail. I am sorry to hear about your daughter hitting the raised curb while turning right from Billbrook Place onto West Slaughter Lane. Austin Transportation and Public Works has not received any other concerns of similar incidents regarding this matter. There are many intersections with similar characteristics along Slaughter Lane. Turning right on red is not a requirement and drivers should wait to turn right on red until they are comfortable making the turn without rushing to turn. This is particularly the case when it is dark and or raining outside. While there are several tire marks on the raised sidewalk at this intersection and other intersections along Slaughter Lane, this is primarily from larger vehicles such as school buses, moving trucks or vehicles hauling trailers making a wide-right turn and the trailing tires slowly coming into contact with the curb. With that being said, Austin Transportation and Public Works will not move forward with your request to paint the raised curb red with reflective painting. However, we will continue to monitor the intersection and make adjustments as needed. Thank you again for contacting the City. If there is anything else I can assist you with, please let me know. Regards, Stephen.
